Design of a pocket confidant

To support our client Ora’s brand-new app Innie we imagined the design and personality of its main character, a confidant who guides users through their personal development journey.

Conceived as a ‘shoulder voice’ - that gentle little voice resting just behind us - Innie sits between an invisible companion and a tiny fairy: close, reassuring, slightly goofy, and deeply endearing. Its design was developed in harmony with the brand’s broader visual worlds, allowing it to integrate seamlessly into a larger ecosystem. This notably influenced its colour palette, 3D rendering, and the shape of its ears.

As members of an extended family, the innies come in a carefully refined palette, enabling everyone to adopt the version that feels most like them, making it a supportive presence - a companion that does not impose but accompanies.

Bringing innie to life

Innie's personality is expressed with even greater accuracy and depth thanks to the work done on the animations. Through them, we perceive her endearing and humorous yet subtle character, transcending mere movements to become a true embodiment.

Particular care has been taken with the responses of the eyes. Their reactivity, micro-movements, and variations in intensity enhance the sense of connection. This presents the user with an entity that appears attentive, expressive, and sensitive to their interactions.

Building attachment through design

Let’s quickly talk about the palette. It was extensively developed and refined, in line with the client's vast ecosystem. Drawing its resources from the realm of the wonderful, the range touches on the imaginary, evokes magic, sweets, and fairy tales, thus pressing the button of childhood and its nostalgia. Beyond sounds, glances, and the expressiveness of ears, it is also through colour that design builds emotional attachment.
