Three.js Conf

Branding and digital coverage for Three.js Conf Paris 2026 (September 10-11, Maison de la Chimie). From the visual identity to its rollout across web, social and on-site materials, we shaped how the event looked and how it was shared with the Three.js community online.

Context

The first conference dedicated to Three.js, 16 years after its creation

Three.js is a JavaScript library for creating 3D scenes in web browsers, a technology widely used in interactive design. To celebrate its use and bring the community together, creative developer David Ronai decided to organize the very first Three.js conference.

Hervé supported the entire organization by creating the event's branding, the website, and all printed and digital communications, bringing Three.js technology into every step. Like the teaser below, for example.

Step one

The Concept

First, and fast, we had to find a concept strong enough to carry the conference's entire art direction. We explored several directions as low-fidelity wireframes, starting from two angles: Three.js itself and the community around it.

Community at the heart of the concept

We ultimately chose to focus on the community rather than on a technology showcase. The idea: put visitors at the center of the experience by making them the actors of the website itself. We first explored this direction in low-fidelity wireframes, then animated it to make sure it worked in motion.

Step two

Character design

This direction led us to explore different ways of representing the audience and the community.

The one we chose felt the most inclusive: simple spheres for the characters, but with a wide range of textures and expressions. This way, every character is equal, yet incredibly diverse.

A one-of-a-kind look

Every attendee leaves with a unique avatar, generated on the fly. With a single click on "Randomize look", the sphere gets a new skin: iridescent textures, color gradients, grain and reflections recombine to give birth to a new creature, never quite the same.

Express yourself!

Eyes and expressions vary too, so everyone can find a character that looks like them or makes them smile. A rich set of combinations makes every avatar unique, while keeping a graphic consistency that makes the family instantly recognizable.

Breaking out of the screen

From digital to tangible

The playground for extending the identity into the physical world was huge, a chance for us to bring our little community of spheres to life beyond the screen.

Digital badge

We loved pushing the conference sphere off the web and turning it into a little character you carry around, a bit like a Tamagotchi. The result: 40 handmade badges that come to life and recognize each other.

The identity at full scale

Scenography

Dressing the venue was the final step in developing the visual identity. To get a better feel for the result, Misaki Kitano (co-organizer) used AI to create a 3D map of the Maison de la Chimie, so we could test all our designs to scale.
